Final Home Weekend in August Kicks off Curve Homestand

CURVE, Pa. - After just four days away from Curve, Pa., the Altoona Curve are back at Blair County Ballpark for a jam-packed stay at home beginning on Friday, August 12th. The homestand, which includes a special day for Pittsburgh Pirates' fans, two giveaway nights and two fireworks shows, will open with three games against the Reading Phillies, (Philadelphia Phillies' affiliate) and finish with four games in three days with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays' affiliate). The first three days of the homestand also mark the final home weekend in August for the Curve.

The fun gets started on Friday at 7 p.m. as the Reading Phillies make their last appearance in Altoona this season. On this Freebie Friday, the Curve will have a Back to School Drawstring Bag Giveaway for the first 750 fans 14 and under thanks to Ravine Screen Printing and Embroidery. Also, all fans 12 and under will be admitted absolutely free into Blair County Ballpark as part of the final Galliker's Kids' Club Night of the season. Fans already in the Kids' Club should remember to bring their membership card, while fans new to the club can sign up easily and without cost at the Curve Box Office upon arrival for the game. Kids will also get to run the bases after the game.

The series continues on Saturday as the Curve and their fans will shout 'Let's Go Bucs' for their 7 p.m. game, which will be an absolute dream for all Pittsburgh Pirates' fans. The gates to Blair County Ballpark will swing open early at a special time of 4 p.m. so that fans can enjoy the nationally televised Pirates-Brewers on the giant video board and concourse TVs. In addition to being able to watch the Pirates' game, fans will enjoy a rare opportunity to watch the Curve take batting practice. In honor of the players that have gone from Altoona to Pittsburgh, the first 1,000 fans into the park on Saturday will receive a special Curve Alumni poster, thanks to Keller Engineers, with the comic-style likenesses of 12 Pirates' players who have played in Altoona! Continuing the Black and Gold connection, Grant Jackson, the winning pitcher for the Pirates in Game 7 of the 1979 World Series, will greet fans and sign autographs from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Then, the 2011 Curve players and coaching staff will be available to sign autographs from 5:40 to 6:20 p.m. The Pirates' Pierogies will also be joining the fun as they make their first-ever appearance at Blair County Ballpark.

Additionally on Saturday, the Hippest Nerd in Da' Biz', Myron Noodleman, will bring his awesome dancing and hilarious antics to the Ballpark and kids will get to race around the bases after the game.

The weekend series concludes on Sunday at 6 p.m. with Sunday Night Fireworks, as the Curve will host another spectacular fireworks display following the game. Also Sunday, the Curve will be giving away another 750 drawstring bags to fans 14 & under, thanks to Ravine Screen Printing and Embroidery. The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA) will be holding their annual picnic and silent auction to raise awareness and funds to fight the Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. The Children's Miracle Network will also host their Princess & Pirate Party and fans are encouraged to call 877-99-CURVE and ask for Elsie Gibney for details on how to attend. Fans should also remember to bring their glove as the Curve will host a pregame catch on the field from 5 p.m. to 5:25 p.m. and kids will get to run the bases after the game.

Following an off day on Monday, the Curve will continue the homestand with a three-day, four-game series against New Hampshire.

The series with the Fisher Cats will start in spectacular fashion on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with a Two-for-Tuesday and Fireworks! Two-for-Tuesdays at Blair County Ballpark mean fans can take advantage of two-for-one offers on all tickets, hot dogs and small popcorns thanks to Atlantic Broadband and KRAFT Singles. Making the night even more value-packed will be a post-game fireworks show sponsored by Bellwood/Hollidaysburg/Philipsburg Hometown Markets. Also on hand will be an Elvis impersonator who will have fans rocking in their blue suede shoes all night long. Meanwhile, on the main concourse, The Griffith Foundation, comprised of family and friends of Greg Griffith will be on hand to conduct a silent auction to raise awareness and funds for the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute in its fight against pancreatic cancer.

On Wednesday, the Curve will host two games for the price of one as a doubleheader will begin with a special 5:30 p.m. game time for game one. The Curve will play two seven-inning games on a Ponderosa Four-Pack Wednesday where fans can get four tickets, four hot dogs and four regular sodas all for $30 thanks to Ponderosa Steakhouses. Also, City Beverage and Miller Brewing are treating 500 military veterans to the doubleheader with tickets distributed through the Veterans Administration. City Beverage and Miller are collecting Miller High Life and High Life Light can tabs and bottle caps at the ballpark gates, as well, and will contribute 10 cents for each one to Miller's "Give Veterans a Taste of the High Life" campaign. In addition, it will also be another What We're Watching Wednesday where Curve Head Groundskeeper Brian Soukup will take the spotlight as the Curve parody the hit show 'Pawn Stars' throughout the game with 'Lawn Stars'.

The homestand wraps up with a special noon start time on a Super Splash Day on Thursday at Blair County Ballpark. For the Splash Day, the entire third-base side of the stadium will become a giant soak zone to help you cool down from the summer heat. It's also a Thirsty Thursday thanks to Rocky 104.9 with $2 draft specials on 16oz. Miller Lite and $1.50 specials on small 22oz. sodas.

* GATES OPEN EARLY at 4 P.M.

* Let's Go Bucs Day - The Curve will turn Blair County Ballpark into PNC Park-West as the gates will open at 4 p.m. for fans to watch the Pirates-Brewers' game on the video board, Curve batting practice on the field, meet and receive an autograph from 1979 World Series winning pitcher Grant Jackson (4:30-5:30) and watch the Pirate Pierogies race around the field.

* Curve Alumni Poster Giveaway - The first 1,000 fans into the park will receive a special cartoon-style poster featuring Curve alumni who have played on the 2011 Pirates thanks to Keller Engineers.

* Myron Noodleman Appearance - The Hippest Nerd in Da' Biz' will bring his awesome dancing and hilarious antics to Blair County Ballpark.

* Team Autograph Session - The entire Curve team will be available pregame for a team autograph session from 5:40-6:20
