Reading, Pa. - The Baysox completed a sweep of the Reading Phillies with a 5-2 road victory Thursday evening. The win, the team's fifth in a row, improves the Baysox to 66-51 and keeps the team in first place by a half game over Harrisburg.

With three wins over Reading, the Baysox completed their third series sweep of the season as they also swept Richmond at home and beat Altoona in four games on the road. Now 15 games above .500, the Baysox currently have their best record of the season.

In just his second career Double-A start, right-handed starting pitcher Bobby Bundy pitched five scoreless innings and allowed three hits while striking out five to earn the win.

For the third night in a row, the Baysox got on the board first in the second inning against Reading starter JC Ramirez. With a runner on first base, Catcher Caleb Joseph reached on a fielder's choice and scored when third baseman Brandon Waring doubled to center field. Designated hitter Steve Lerud walked and shortstop Pedro Florimon singled to right field, allowing Waring to score. With center fielder Xavier Avery batting, both runners advanced on a passed ball by catcher Tuffy Gosewisch and Lerud scored when Avery singled to center field. Second baseman Greg Micat plated the final run of the inning when he grounded out to make the score 4-0.

The Baysox added another run in the top of the sixth inning when Waring hit his team-leading 17th home run of the season to center field to give Bowie a 5-0 lead. It was Waring's third home run in three days and his 40th career home run with the Baysox, putting him just two behind Baysox career home runs leader Keith Reed. Waring has hit four home runs in seven games against Reading this season.

Reading got on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning against right-handed reliever Chorye Spoone. Steve Singleton hit a lead off single to center field and went to third when Paco Figueroa doubled to left field. Brent Clevlen then drew a walk to load the bases before Matt Rizzotti grounded into a force out that plated Singleton. Derrick Mitchell then drew a walk to load the bases before right-handed pitcher Eddie Gamboa replaced Spoone on the mound. Gamboa hit Chris Lubanski, the first batter he faced, to drive in another run and make the score 5-2 before recording consecutive outs to get out of the inning

Spoone pitched two and one-third innings and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out five. In six appearances since moving to the bullpen, Spoone is 1-0 and has earned his first career save. In 14.1 innings pitched, he has allowed three earned runs while striking out 15 and walking five.

Gamboa pitched one and two-thirds innings in total to earn his fourth save of the season. After getting the Baysox out of a jam in the eighth inning, he pitched a perfect ninth inning to finish the game.

While the Baysox offense was clicking early, they struggled to drive in runs late in the game as they tied their season-high with 14 runners left on base. Bowie's offense recorded 12 hits, but converted them into five runs as they left the bases loaded in the seventh and eighth innings.

Friday, RHP Zach Clark (7-7, 4.94) takes the mound for the Baysox as they return home to take on the New Britain Rock Cats.

The Baysox return home for three games Friday, Aug. 12. The home stand includes Family Campout Friday, Aug. 12, the Football Kickoff Party Saturday, Aug. 13 and Diamond Dig Sunday, Aug. 14. All three games of the home stand also include a fireworks display.
