SeaWolves Shut out by Fisher Cats 3-0

The SeaWolves offense could not get going for the second straight day as they were shut out by the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3-0 in the rubber game of a three-game series at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
The Fisher Cats struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Drew Smyly. Calix Crabbed and John Tolisano each walked to start the inning. A wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring position and Crabbe scored on a one-out groundout from Travis d'Arnaud for a 1-0 New Hampshire lead.
New Hampshire added to its lead in the ninth. Moises Sierra and d'Arnaud each singled and Yan Gomez walked to load the bases against reliever Rob Waite. With one out, Kevin Howard laced a two-run double down the right field line for a 3-0 Fisher Cats lead.
The SeaWolves threatened several times in the game but failed to break through. The 'Wolves had runners in scoring position in five innings and had the bases loaded once and failed to plate any runners.
The Fisher Cats pitching staff held the SeaWolves scoreless over the final 18 innings of the series, tossing back-to-back shutouts.
Smyly (2-1) allowed a run on three hits with six walks and five strikeouts in five innings of work. The loss snapped a streak of five consecutive wins for Smyly going back to his time with the Lakeland Flying Tigers prior to his promotion to Erie.
The SeaWolves continue a six-game road trip on Friday night at Hadlock Field against the Portland Sea Dogs.7:00 First Pitch. Righty L.J. Gagnier (3-5, 5.35 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against RHP Miguel Gonzalez (0-3, 5.92 ERA).
