Toledo Mud Hens News Release
(TOLEDO, OH) Robert W. LaClair, president and CEO of Fifth Third Bank and Joe Napoli, general manager of the Toledo Mud Hens, will announce tomorrow that both organizations are joining forces to collect food this weekend during the Mud Hens homestand in support of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger program. Fifth Third chose the food drive as this year's national service project in honor of Fifth Third Day which occurs annually on May 3. The goal of Fifth Third is to provide more than 53,000 meals nationally as part of the Fifth Third Day celebrations. One pound of food can provide two meals and four meals can be supplied from every dollar raised.
Fans attending the Mud Hens home games on Thursday through Sunday of this week (May 3 - 6, 2012) are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the ballpark. Boxes will be readily available at all entrances and donations will remain in the local community.
The NALC Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will officially be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Letter carriers are asking residents to leave non-perishable food items near their mailbox prior to mail delivery that day. Now in its 20th year, the Stamp Out Hunger effort is the nation's largest single-day food drive. In 2011, drive organizers across the country collected more than 70 million pounds of total food donations for the eighth consecutive year.
Suggested non-perishable food donations include: Peanut butter, pancake mixes and syrup, canned fruits, pastas, canned vegetables, powdered milk, cereals, spaghetti sauce, instant potatoes, soups, Jell-O and pudding.
The Mud Hens are home today through Sunday, May 6. Fans can purchase their tickets at the Fifth Third Field box office, by phone (419) 725-HENS (4367), or online at www.mudhens.com.
