GAME #24 - ROAD GAME #12 - 7:05 P.M.

ROCHESTER RED WINGS (9-14) at EMPIRE STATE YANKEES (12-10)

RHP DARYL THOMPSON (1-2, 4.26) vs. RHP ADAM WARREN (2-1, 6.10)

BASEBALL MONTH IN ROCHESTER: The Rochester Red Wings tonight continue their rain-shortened 7-game roadtrip with the first of 4 against the Empire State Yankees at Frontier Field. The Wings and Buffalo Bisons (Mets) last night were rained out in the finale of their 4-game set. Following 4 with the Yankees, Rochester will welcome Buffalo to town for a brief 2-game series Saturday-Sunday and then hit the road for their first of 5 season-long 8-game roadtrips with stops at Pawtucket (Red Sox) and Syracuse (Nationals).

aLast night's rainout in Buffalo will be made up as part of a doubleheader during the 4-game series August 25-28 at Coca-Cola Field.

NEWS OF THE DAY: The Red Wings and Monroe County yesterday proclaimed May as "Baseball Month in Rochester." Frontier Field is hosting games on 26 of the 31 days in the month, as the Empire State Yankees use the downtown ballpark as a temporary home while PNC Field in Moosic, PA undergoes a season-long renovation. There will be a raffle during each of the games in May, and tonight's items are a Jason Bartlett autographed bat, Jimmy Key autographed photo, Brian Dozier autographed baseball, and Mike O'Connor autographed baseball.

ROSTER NEWS: The Red Wings today reinstated Rene Tosoni from the 7-Day Disabled List. The outfielder has missed the last 21 games after suffering a lacerated left ring finger in the home opener April 7 vs. Buffalo. Tosoni sustained the injury while sliding into home on a safety squeeze. He was placed on the DL on April 13.

aThe Minnesota Twins today recalled Drew Butera from Triple-A Rochester.

aThe Wings have also placed third baseman Michael Hollimon on the 7-Day DL with a right elbow contusion.

aThe Wings yesterday received left-handed pitcher Luke French from Double-A New Britain. The 26-year-old will start Thursday at Empire State in place of the injured Samuel Deduno.

OH DEAR: The Red Wings finished April with a 9-14 record, a half game worse than last year's 9-13 mark. The Red Wings are off to their worst start since 2010, when they posted the same record through their first 23 games. Should the Wings lose tonight, they would be off to their worst 24-game start since the 2001 club went 8-16.

aThe Wings have lost a season-high 6 in a row, 8 of their last 10, and 12 of their last 16 since opening the year 5-2. The 6-game skid is the club's longest since losing a 2011 season-worst 6-gamer August 20-25. Rochester tonight looks to avoid its first losing streak of 7 or more games since a 12-game losing streak August 23-September 3, 2010.

MOMENTUM SLOWED: The Red Wings played their first 16 games of the season without a weather-related postponed game, the longest such streak since the 2002 club played 17 straight games to open the year until their 18th game was rained out at Buffalo (Indians). The 2012 Wings were 8-8 at the time of their first postponement. They have had 3 rainouts and a scheduled offday since, playing just 6 of the last 10 days (7 games total with last Thursday's doubleheader) and are 1-6 in that time.

aBarring any rainouts, the Red Wings tonight start a stretch of playing 22 games in a row before a scheduled offday May 23.

LET'S RE-LIVE THAT OPENING DAY MAGIC: Since scoring a season-high 7 runs on Opening Day, April 5 at Syracuse (Nationals), the Red Wings have been held to 5 runs or less in each of their last 22 games. In the 5 contests they've scored at least 5 runs, the Wings are 4-1. They are 5-13 in their other 17 games.

aThe Red Wings have scored an International League-low 71 runs, 12 fewer than the next closest teams, Durham (Rays) and Lehigh Valley (Phillies). The league leader is Toledo (Tigers), which has plated 130 runs, 59 more than Rochester.

aThe Wings have been held to 3 runs or less in 4 straight games.

aThe Wings are hitting just .205 (9-for-44) with runners in scoring position during their 6-game losing streak, including a 4-for-21 mark (.190) during the rain-shortened 3-game series at Buffalo.

THE BRIGHT SIDE: On a more positive note, the Red Wings have grounded into an International League-low 9 double plays, including just one in the last 5 games. The next closest is Indianapolis (Pirates) with 10. Rochester also leads the league with 9 triples, 2 more than Columbus (Indians) and Gwinnett (Braves).

CUP 'O JOE: Joe Benson, the Twins' No. 2 prospect according to Baseball America, has recorded 6 RBI in his last 7 games after driving in only one run in his first 15 contests. Not only that, each of his last 5 hits has gone for extra bases (2 doubles, one triple, and 2 home runs). All 5 extra-base knocks have come in the last 5 games. He had just 2 extra-base hits in his first 17 games.

aDarin Mastroianni is hitting .370 (17-for-46) in 12 games since joining the Red Wings April 14. The outfielder ranks 7th in average in the International League in that time. Empire State's Steve Pearce ranks 5th in that same period with a .419 average (18-for-43). The leader is Gwinnett's Jordan Parraz with a .435 mark (20-for-46).

BY THE NUMBERS: The Red Wings thus far have employed the services of 29 players, including 16 position players and 13 pitchers. Luke French will become the 30th player used by the team when he starts Thursday at Empire State. Six different players have been placed on the DL and 2 have been recalled to the Twins, including Ben Revere and Drew Butera.
