CHARLOTTE, N.C. - On Saturday, Mar. 12, the Charlotte Checkers will host their fifth annual "Pink in the Rink" to benefit Carolina Breast Friends when they host the Binghamton Senators.

The event, sponsored by 107.9 the Link, has raised more than $90,000 for breast cancer beneficiaries since its inception in 2006-07.

The Checkers will don specialty pink jerseys and auction them live following the game. Proceeds from the auction and a portion of ticket sales will be donated to CBF as they finish the renovations on the "Pink House," a sanctuary for breast cancer survivors.

"There is such an excitement that surrounds this game each year," said Checkers COO Tera Black. "We look forward to Pink in the Rink as it is one of the best events of the season. Seeing so many people out to support those who have been affected by breast cancer is something that is simply indescribable."

This year's player-related honoree is Raven Madsen, a breast cancer survivor and mother of Checkers defenseman Casey Borer.

In addition to the pink jerseys and simulated pink ice around the game, a group of breast cancer survivors will perform on-ice with the CheckMates during an intermission.

"Carolina Breast Friends are pleased to be working again with the Charlotte Checkers," added Pam Darnell, CBF office administrator and seven-year breast cancer survivor. "The funds raised will go towards the Pink House, which will serve breast cancer survivors as they travel though their journey of recovery and beyond."

The game will start at 7 p.m. and will be televised live on Time Warner Cable digital channel 520 (519 in Raleigh/Fayetteville). A special $15 ticket will be offered and $6 will go back to CBF. To take advantage of the discounted ticket and donation, visit www.GoCheckers.com/PinkintheRink.
