Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that the Boston Bruins have assigned goaltender Manny Fernandez to the P-Bruins for conditioning purposes. With the move, Providence now has 22 players on its roster, including 11 forwards, seven defensemen and four goaltenders.
Fernandez, 33, is in his 14th professional season and first in the Boston organization. This season, the net-minder from Etobicoke, Ontario, is 2-2-0 with a 3.93 goals-against-average and a .832 save percentage, and has not appeared in a game since a 6-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on October 22. Originally drafted by the Quebec Nordiques 52nd overall in the third round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, Fernandez has spent the majority of his career with the Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars, compiling a career NHL record of 127-115-32 in 297 games. Including his time in the now-defunct International Hockey League, mostly with the Michigan K-Wings, as well as his play with Lulea HF in the Swedish Elite League, Fernandez has a record of 249-185-66 in 539 contests. The backstop was acquired by Boston on July 1 for former P-Bruins forward Petr Kalus and a fourth round draft pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
Providence, the top team in the AHL with 38 points, continues its 10-game home-stand with another two games this weekend. Friday is Rhode Island Reds T-Shirt Night as Providence hosts the Chicago Wolves for the first time since 2001-02. Chicago is second in the AHL with 35 points and a record of 17-4-1-0 entering Friday's game, which begins at 7:05 p.m. with the giveaway t-shirts courtesy of ServiceMaster Clean and the Southcoast Hospitals Group. Providence Bruins Promotional Nights are made possible by Dunkin' Donuts and your New England Dodge Dealers. On Saturday, it's another 7:05 p.m. tilt between Providence and the Portland Pirates, who the P-Bruins are 3-0-1-0 against this season.
