Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that the Boston Bruins have traded P-Bruins left wing Nate DiCasmirro and their fifth round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft to the Phoenix Coyotes for goaltender Alex Auld. The net-minder is expected to join Boston today. With the move, Providence has 21 players on its roster, including 11 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders.
DiCasmirro, 29, is in his seventh professional season and second in the Boston organization. This year, the undrafted wing has two goals and three assists for five points in 20 games with Providence. Prior to turning pro, DiCasmirro played four seasons for the St. Cloud State Huskies, winning the WCHA tournament as junior. Since, the native of Atikokan, Ontario, has enjoyed a career spent exclusively in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Toronto Roadrunners, Edmonton Road Runners, Grand Rapids Griffins and Providence. In his rookie year in 2002-03, DiCasmirro advanced to the Calder Cup finals with Hamilton, falling in seven games to the Houston Aeros. In his career, the forward has 162 points on 57 goals and 105 assists, along with 275 penalty minutes in 358 games.
Auld, 26, is also in his seventh pro season, compiling a record of 49-50-2-11 in 117 NHL games, along with a 2.94 goals-against-average and .901 save percentage. The native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, has appeared in nine games with Phoenix this year, going 3-6-0 with a 3.54 GAA, in addition to another two games with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage. There, Auld was 1-1-0 with a 2.53 GAA. The backstop was drafted by the Florida Panthers 40th overall in the second round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
