Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs and the South Atlantic League are inviting fans to vote for the representatives in the upcoming 2009 SAL All-Star Game.
For the third straight season, the league is including fans in the All-Star selection process. In years past, voting was limited to SAL managers, coaches and members of the media.
Fans who would like to vote are requested to e-mail the RiverDogs media relations office at pr2@riverdogs.com nominating the players and managers whom they feel are most deserving of the honor.
"Being selected to the South Atlantic League Southern or Northern Division All-Star Team is a special honor for the league's young players, and the SAL and the RiverDogs want fans to have a voice in the selection process," said RiverDogs general manager Dave Echols.
Selections can be made from the following categories (for each the Northern & Southern Divisions): manager, pitcher, catcher, first baseman, second baseman, third baseman, short stop, utility infielder (2), right fielder, center fielder, left fielder, utility outfielder (2), designated hitter, and trainer.
For more information on each player and manager, fans can visit www.southatlanticleague.com to view all records and stats. All submissions should be e-mailed to the RiverDogs no later than May 29.
This year's All-Star Game will be played in Charleston, W. Va. at Appalachian Power Park, home of the Northern Division's West Virginia Power, on June 23. RiverDogs All-Stars from the 2008 game included manager Torre Tyson, catcher Jesus Montero, infielder Justin Snyder, outfielder Abraham Almonte, and pitchers Lance Pendleton, Jason Stephens and Jonathan Ortiz.
