The Charleston RiverDogs broke the game open in the middle innings and went on to beat the Lexington Legends 9-1 Thursday night in Charleston.

Charleston led 2-1 after three innings, but began to pull away in the fourth. Melky Mesa tripled to lead off, and one out later, Mitch Abeita singled him home to give the RiverDogs a 3-1 lead. In the Charleston fifth, Taylor Grote's fly ball to center field fell in for a double when center fielder Jay Austin was unable to see the ball in the twilight. Mesa then followed with his South Atlantic League-leading 10th home run of the year to make the score 5-1. Charleston added three more in the sixth, two scoring on a triple by Corban Joseph. The final Charleston run came in the seventh.

Andrew Brackman, the 6-10 righthander who signed a $4.5 million contract with the New York Yankees in 2007 before having to undergo Tommy John surgery, recorded his first win of the year against four losses. He pitched eight innings, allowed five hits, struck out six and walked one.

Ross Seaton (4-4) was the losing pitcher. The two teams will meet again Friday night at 7:05 in Charleston. Right-hander Robert Bono (4-1) will pitch for Lexington against left-hander Manny Banuelos (1-1).
