Hagerstown Suns News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC: Marcos Frias pitched six excellent innings and Derek Norris hit a two-run home run as the Hagerstown Suns (19-18) defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators (20-20) 4-2 on Thursday.
Scoring early has been a big part of the Suns successes this season, and Thursday was no different. Jose Lozada led the game off with a single, and two batters later Derek Norris hit his ninth home run of the season over the left field wall on a 3-1 pitch from Kannapolis starter Dexter Carter.
The blast gave the Suns a 2-0 lead, and the Suns improved to 10-1 when scoring first on the season.
Hagerstown added two more runs in the top of the third when, with Lozada and Norris on base Tyler Moore doubled off the left field fence, driving in both runners.
The 4-0 lead was more than enough for Suns starter Marcos Frias. Frias lasted six innings and allowed just one run on five hits while striking out six batters. The right-hander did not allow a walk, and over his last two starts has pitched 12 innings, struck out 13 and issued zero free passes.
The Intimidators did get single runs in the bottom of the fourth and seventh innings, but Osvaldo Rodriguez struck out two batters in the bottom of the ninth en route to his seventh save of the season.
The Suns will return to Municipal Stadium to host the Hickory Crawdads for a four game series starting on Friday, May 22nd. First pitch will be at 6:35 PM, and following the game will be the first of the Suns Friday Night Fireworks series.
The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Ticket packages and sponsorships are available by calling the Suns at 301-791-6266. Visit the Suns on the web at www.hagerstownsuns.com.
