Rome Holds on for the 5-4 Win

Rome, GA -The Rome Braves defeated the Asheville Tourists 5-4 Tuesday night in front of 2,049 fans at State Mutual Stadium. The Braves improve to 23-17 on the season.

Asheville took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Patrick Rose. The Tourists added another run in the third to give them the 2-0 advantage on an RBI single by Jordan Pacheco. The Braves cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning when Chais Fuller scored from third on a ground out by Luis Sumoza. Rome tied the game 2-2 in the fourth on an RBI single by Jahdiel Santamaria.

The Braves took the lead in the sixth inning 3-2 when Fuller grounded into a fielder's choice scoring Stephen Shults from third. In the seventh Rome added two insurance runs with the first coming on a RBI single by Gerry Rodriguez, and the second as a result of a fielding error by Thomas Field to make it a 5-2 game. In the top of ninth, the Tourists rallied for two runs. Scott Robinson hit an infield single to Ryan Barba who tried to double up Tyler Massey at second. Rome second baseman Shayne Moody saw the runner trying to score from third and made a wild throw allowing Patrick Rose to score and moving Massey to third. Later in the inning, Rome pitcher Jay Chapman struck out Delta Cleary but saw his pitch skip by catcher Jesus Sucre to send Massey home for the second run of the inning. Jordan Pacheco then grounded to first to end the game and Rome held on for the 5-4 score.

David Francis (3-1) was the winning pitcher for the Braves, while Ethan Hollingsworth (1-3) got the loss for the Tourists. Chapman recorded his fifth save of the season.
