
Brackman Dismantles Legends, 9-1

CHARLESTON, SC - Andrew Brackman collected his first professional victory and Melky Mesa smashed his league leading 10th home run as the Charleston RiverDogs dismantled the Lexington Legends, 9-1, in South Atlantic League action Thursday in front of 3,852 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
Brackman (1-4) held Lexington to one earned run on five hits, one walk and six strikeouts in 8.0 innings pitched en route to the win. With the triumph, the RiverDogs earned their fifth straight victory at The Joe and jumped to 22-18 on the season while the Legends slip to 19-21.
The RiverDogs snatched an initial 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first when Abraham Almonte slapped a single to right, stole second base and dashed home for the game's first run when Dan Brewer laced a single up the middle.
Lexington knotted the game 1-1 in the visiting half of the second frame when Steve Brown reached on a fielder's choice and then scampered to third after Brandon Barnes single to left. Marques Williams knocked home Brown for the game-tying run with a single to left.
Mitch Abeita sparked a two-out rally in the bottom of the second as Charleston claimed a 2-1 lead. Abeita smacked a double off the right-center field wall and then rounded the bases after Almonte's scorched double to left.
The RiverDogs ratcheted a 3-1 lead in the home half of the fourth frame Mesa cracked a leadoff triple to right-center and then Abeita singled up the middle that drove in Mesa.
Charleston extended its advantage to 5-1 in the home half of the fifth frame when Taylor Grote doubled to center and then Mesa hammered a two-run blast over the left field fence, the homer extended Mesa's and tied the RiverDogs season-high of 12 games..
The RiverDogs captured an 8-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth when Mike Lyon cracked a leadoff single followed by an Abeita walk. With two runners on, Corban Joseph lined a triple down the right field line that plated Lyon and Abeita. Brewer drove in Joseph on a groundout for the inning's third run.
Charleston tacked a final run for a 9-1 advantage in the seventh when Jose Pirela sprinted to third after a single to left that was misplayed by Legends left fielder Williams, who committed a two-base error. Legends reliever Brian Wabick uncorked a wild pitch that scored Pirela.
Legends starter Ross Seaton (4-4) surrendered 10 hits, 8 earned runs, 3 walks and 1 strikeout in 5.1 innings pitched to earn the defeat.
The RiverDogs collected 12 base knocks in the game lead by the trio of Almonte, Mesa, and Abeita each tallying three hits while five different Legends each amassed a hit.
RiverDogs manager Torre Tyson hands the ball to southpaw Manny Banuelos (1-1, 3.38) while Lexington manager Tom Lawless opposes with righty Robert Bono (4-1, 2.08) in the third game of the series Friday night with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.
