Akron RubberDucks News Release
AKRON, OH - The Cleveland Indians announced Monday that former Akron Aeros and Cleveland Indians outfielder Trevor Crowe has been activated from the disabled list and assigned to the Aeros. Crowe is expected to be in uniform on Tuesday night when the Aeros host New Britain at 7:05.
The Tribe also announced that SS Juan Diaz has been optioned to Akron after appearing in five games for the Indians. He made his major league debut for the Indians on May 25th against the White Sox, and picked up his first major league hit two days later off Chicago's Gavin Floyd. While in Cleveland, Diaz was 4-15 (.267) with no home runs or RBI's. So far this season with the Aeros, Diaz is hitting .232, with three homers and 18 RBI in 34 games.
Crowe began the season with Triple-A Columbus and hit .299, with two home runs and nine RBI's in 19 games. He suffered a strained right oblique muscle in late April, was placed on the Triple-A disabled list may 4th. He has not appeared in a game since May 1st.
Crowe, 28, has played parts of the three seasons with the Indians. He has appeared in 205 major league games and carries a .245 career average with nine homers, 55 RBI's and 29 stolen bases.
No stranger to Canal Park and the Eastern League, Crowe has suited up for 224 Aeros games in his career. He most recently appeared for the Aeros in 2008, when he hit .323 in 49 games.
The Indians drafted Crowe out of the University of Arizona in the first round of the 2005 draft. He was the 14th player selected in that year's draft.
A native of Portland, Oregon, Crowe was limited to 15 games with the Indians last year after recovering from right shoulder surgery. Once he returned to action in September, he injured his left shoulder attempting to make a diving catch in the first game of a doubleheader against the Twins, and missed the final week of the season. Crowe was taken off the Indians 40-man roster in November, and outrighted to Columbus.
Catcher Dwight Childs, who joined the Aeros over the weekend in Binghamton, but did not play, has been placed on the DL with a left calf strain.
The Aeros roster now stands at 25 players.
The Aeros will continue begin a six-game homestand tonight at 7:05, with the first of three games against the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins). All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
