Baysox Fall to Sea Dogs in Opener

Portland, ME - The Bowie Baysox (23-33) managed just three hits against the Portland Sea Dogs (24-33) and lost 6-1 on Tuesday night.

The Sea Dogs got the scoring started in the third inning. Nick Natoli walked and with two outs Jeremy Hazelbaker reached on a bunt single to put two runners on. The next batter, Oscar Tejeda, singled to knock in Natoli for the first run of the game. After Juan Carlos Linares singled to load up the bases, Reynaldo Rodriguez drew a walk to force in a run and make the score 2-0.

In the fifth, the Sea Dogs added another two-out run. With two outs, Linares doubled and then scored on another double by Rodriguez to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Sea Dogs tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning. Dan Butler led off with a double and scored on a Derrik Gibson triple to left. Then with two outs, Gibson scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-0.

In the eighth inning, the Baysox got on the board on a two-out RBI single by Rhyne Hughes to cut the lead to 5-1.

The Sea Dogs answered right back in the bottom half of the inning when Butler hit a lead off home run that made the score 6-1.

Drake Britton got the win in his Double-A debut tossing five no-hit innings with two strikeouts and six walks.

Tim Bascom picked up the loss going five innings and allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

RHP Bobby Bundy (2-7, 5.06) will get the start in the second game of the series against RHP Stolmy Pimentel (1-2, 5.04).

The Baysox are in the midst of a six-game road trip. They will return home on Tuesday, June 12 for a six-game homestand that will include fireworks, a pint glass giveaway, and their annual Legends of Wrestling Night featuring Bret "The Hitman" Hart.
