Rock Cats Pitcher Promoted

New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, announced that RHP Steve Hirschfeld has been promoted to Triple-A Rochester. He has left the Rock Cats on their current road trip in Akron, Ohio and will join the Red Wings in the International League. The right-hander becomes the 8th Rock Cats player promoted to Triple-A this season (OF Darin Mastroianni, RHP Deolis Guerra, LHP Luke French, SS Pedro Florimon, OF Wilkin Ramirez, RHP Lester Oliveros, RHP David Bromberg) and 5th pitcher to move up to the next level in the minors. Mastrioianni began the season at New Britain and is now in the Major Leagues with the Twins.

Hirschfeld, 26, who has pitched for the Rock Cats during the past three seasons, was 4-4 with a 3.20 ERA in 11 starts in New Britain's starting rotation. He led the club with 64.2 innings pitched and was T-2nd on club with 44 strikeouts. The San Diego State product had his consecutive scoreless innings streak come to an end (18 innings) on April 23 vs Portland... Hirschfeld went back-to-back starts without allowing a single run, April 13-18... He went 8-8 with a 3.73 ERA in 30 games (21 starts) for the Rock Cats last season after being limited to just 22 innings (11G 3GS) with Rock Cats in 2010 due to injury...

The Rock Cats begin a two city 6-game road trip at Akron (Cleveland-AL) tonight at 7:05. The broadcast can be heard on the radio on WMRD AM 1150 and WLIS AM 1420 and on the internet on www.foxsportsradio1410.com and www.wliswmrd.com. The Rock Cats begin a 6-game homestand next Tuesday (June 12) and will play 3 games with Akron and 3 games with the Erie Sea Wolves (Detroit-AL).
