Garcia Helps Erie Shutout Trenton, 5-0

(Erie, PA) - Lefty Ramon Garcia tossed eight scoreless innings as the Erie SeaWolves shutout the Trenton Thunder, 5-0, Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park. The Thunder (32-24) were held to only four hits in being shutout for just the second time this season.

Garcia (4-4) allowed all four Trenton hits while striking out four and walking just two. Austin Wood tossed a perfect ninth inning to finish the blanking. The Thunder only had two runners advance past first base on the night and did not record an extra base hit.

Erie scored four runs off Brett Marshall (6-3) in the first five innings to take command of the contest. After RBIs from Niuman Romero and Rob Brantly in the third, Rawley Bishop pounded a solo home run in the fourth to make to the score 3-0. Nick Castellanos' sac fly in the fifth added the fourth SeaWolves run.

Jose Pirela continued his hot hitting by collecting two of Trenton's four hits. Jeff Farnham and Zoilo Almonte had the others.

The Thunder and SeaWolves play game two of the series on Wednesday night with first pitch slated for 7:05 pm. Lefty Vidal Nuno (0-1, 0.00) will start for Trenton while righty Zack Segovia (5-5, 5.88) will pitch for Erie. Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm.
