
Falcons Top Phantoms Behind Smith's First Shutout

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (40-20-1-5) defeated the Adirondack Phantoms by the final score of 3-0 Wednesday night at the MassMutual Center, as goaltender Jeremy Smith made 28 saves to earn his 19th win and first shutout of the season.
Smith denied the Phantoms on all 28 shots on net, earning his ninth career American Hockey League shutout and first this season. With the victory, Smith improves to 19-13-3 in 2013-14.
Andrew Joudrey scored the eventual game-winning goal, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 10:24 of the first period. Joudrey extended his point streak to four games Wednesday, adding an assist in the victory over Adirondack as well. Over the four-game span, the Bedford, Nova Scotia native has totaled seven points (two goals, five assists).
Falcons captain Ryan Craig also found the back of the net for Springfield, burying a weak-side rebound for his 16th goal of the season at the 5:45 mark of the second period. Over his last 11 games, Craig has registered 13 points (eight goals, five assists).
Jake Hansen added the Falcons' third goal, beating Adirondack netminder Cal Heeter off of a rebound in front at 16:09 of the third period. Hansen's tally was his ninth of the season and first since January 3 at the Albany Devils.
Heeter stopped 35 of 37 shots in a losing effort for the Phantoms, falling to 15-23-0.
The Falcons went 1-for-5 on the power play, while Adirondack went 0-for-5. Springfield outshot the Phantoms, 37-28.
The Falcons begin a five-game road trip Friday, March 28 at the I-91 rivals, the Hartford Wolf Pack. The team returns to the MassMutual Center Friday, April 11 to host the Portland Pirates at 7:00 p.m.
