March 26, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Utica Comets News Release
Through the extreme generosity of Utica Comet fans, the team is proud to announce that $32,358 has been donated to the Rescue Mission of Utica through the Save of the Day Foundation. The money was raised as part of Irish Night in front of a sell-out crowd at the Utica Memorial Auditorium on March 7. A check was presented to representatives from the Rescue Mission prior to Sunday's game.
"Our fans deserve a tremendous amount of credit here," said Comets President Robert Esche. "They have come out to support the team, the community and so many great causes and this is another example of why we have the best fans around. We were able to donate over $30,000 to both the Breast Care Center at Faxton St. Luke's as well as the Rescue Mission and that is because of the great people of the Mohawk Valley."
The money was raised through the 50/50 raffle as well as an auction of the Comets game-worn, Irish-themed jerseys following the game.
"We are so grateful to Rob Esche, the 'Save Of The Day Foundation' and the Comets organization for their generous and caring support of the programs provided by the Rescue Mission of Utica," said Paul Plevritis, President of the Rescue Mission of Utica Board of Directors. "Their commitment to the Mohawk Valley is a great blessing."
