IceCaps Drop 3-2 Decision to Syracuse Crunch
March 26, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release
Artem Sergeev's shorthanded goal with a little over two and a half minutes remaining gave the Syracuse Crunch a 3-2 win over the St. John's IceCaps Wednesday night at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena in Syracuse.
On the winning goal, Vladislav Namestnikov intercepted a pass in the Crunch zone and skated the length of the ice to fire a shot at IceCaps netminder Tyler Beskorowany and Sergeev was left alone to convert the rebound.
The IceCaps opened the scoring 4:14 into the contest as John Albert made a solo dash down the right wing and sniped a shot that trickled past Crunch keeper Kristers Gudlevskis. Albert's 20th goal of the season was assisted by Kyle MacKinnon. With the teams playing four aside, Ben Chiarot gave the IceCaps a 2-0 lead at 16:23 of the first stanza as he snuck in from the point and fired home an Andrew Gordon pass from behind the net. Jerome Samson had the other assist.
The Crunch responded quickly in the 2nd period as Brett Connolly pounced on a loose puck at the side of the IceCaps net and beat Beskorowany only 32 seconds in. The Crunch squared things at 2-2 at 16:44 of the third period on the powerplay when Mike Angelidis deposited a puck lying in the IceCaps crease.
The IceCaps travel to Binghamton to face the Senators Friday night (8:30 PM NT). Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com and 930 AM This is Newfoundland Labrador, or watch online at www.ahllive.com. Pregame show begins a half hour before puck drop.
