Springfield, Mass. - Three Springfield Falcons players registered a multi-point game as the team surpassed the St. John's IceCaps, 6-4, tonight at the MassMutual Center.

Dana Tyrell led the team, picking up two goals and one assist to go along with a +3 rating, while Austin Madaisky tallied one goal and two assists with a +5 rating. Lukas Sedlak notched one goal and one assist.

The win pushes the Falcons to 6-5-1-0 on the season and gives them a 2-0-0-0 lead in the four-game season series with the IceCaps. St. John's fall in their sixth straight game and move to 3-7-3-1.

Springfield goaltender Oscar Dansk stopped 32 of 36 shots in victory, while his St. John's counterpart, Peter Budaj, turned aside 21 of 26. The Falcons were unable to convert on four power play opportunities. The penalty kill unit stopped three of five IceCaps man-advantages.

After the first 20 minutes, the Falcons led the IceCaps, 2-1. Springfield opened scoring 1:27 into the game. Ryan Craig pulled the puck out of a scrum from behind the cage. The puck ended up on the stick of T.J. Tynan in the slot. A quick pass out to Sean Collins to the right of the crease set up the first goal of the game.

The IceCaps evened the score just after the halfway mark of the first period. Chase Balisy carried the puck into the Falcons zone just as the IceCaps added an extra attacker on a delayed penalty. Balisy fired a shot from the right wing circle that slipped under Dansk's right arm and into the back of the net.

Tyrell gave the Falcons back the lead with 18 seconds remaining in the period. Tyrell deked right and Budaj went down, allowing him to lift the puck over the goaltender and notch his first of the game.

The Falcons struck twice, while the IceCaps picked up one in the second period. As the IceCaps killed a tripping penalty, Jerry D'Amigo increased the Falcons lead at the 2:01 mark of the frame. D'Amigo one-timed a feed from Tynan to put the Falcons up, 3-1. Denny Urban earned credit for the secondary assist.

The IceCaps stole one back with a shorthanded goal at the 12:45 mark. Dansk went behind the net to stop the puck and set up a play. JC Lipon forced a turnover behind the cage and sent the puck out to John Albert, who scored from the slot as Dansk was caught out of position.

Tyrell potted his second goal of the night to earn back a two goal lead. With both teams down a man serving 2:00 minors, Madaisky sent a pass over to Denny Urban at the right point. Tyrell redirected Urban's shot with 3:31 remaining in the period. The Falcons entered the second intermission leading, 4-2.

St. John's were able to come with one of the lead in the third period, but could not catch the Falcons. Halfway through the period, Urban passed ahead to Trent Vogelhuber in the left wing circle. He feed it across the slot to Madaisky, who netted it top shelf, giving the Falcons a three goal lead.

The IceCaps responded with two unanswered power-play tallies. Will O'Neill fired a slap shot through traffic from the blue line off assist from Balisy and Albert at the 9:43 mark. Kris Fredheim cut the lead again with 5:44 remaining in the game. Dansk stopped Balisy's shot from the right point, but the rebound was buried by Fredheim. Brenden Kichton earned a point on the play.

After St. John's pulled Budaj for an extra attacker, Sedlak added an empty net goal with seconds remaining to take down the IceCaps, 6-4.
