Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators picked up its first regulation win on the road this season, beating the Rochester Americans 3-1. Andrew Hammond stopped 24 of 25 shots to earn his third victory of the season.
Rochester struck first when Mikhail Grigorenko sent a centering feed from Joel Armia past Hammond 11:36 into the opening period. The score remained in favor of the Amerks heading into the first intermission with Rochester's Nathan Lieuwen stopping all 10 B-Sens shots in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Just past the midpoint of the second, Ryan Dzingel knotted the score 1-1 with his third goal of his rookie campaign. Patrick Mullen sent a slapshot towards the Amerks crease that was mishandled by Lieuwen and Dzingel was in position to push the loose puck home. Hammond stifled all eight Amerks shots in the second, sending the teams tied 1-1 heading into the final period of regulation.
Binghamton controlled the final frame notching two goals while holding the hosts to just seven shots on goal. Alex Guptill extended the B-Sens lead to 2-1 exactly seven minutes into the third when he wristed home a rebound off a Carter Camper shot. Just over six minutes later, Shane Prince gave the B-Sens a two-goal cushion off an assist from Cole Schneider.
Both Camper and Mullen finished with a pair of assists to lead Binghamton offensively. Lieuwen stopped 32 of 35 B-Sens shots on goal in the losing effort.
