Norfolk Admirals News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Norfolk Admirals picked up their first road win of the season on Friday night at Syracuse, 4-3, courtesy of an overtime goal from defenseman Shea Theodore.
Norfolk headed into Friday night's game still seeking their first road win of the season. The beginning of the game did not go in their favor, however, as the Crunch got off to a quick start when Jean-Philippe Côté recorded his first goal of the season. The slap shot from the point found the back of the net behind Admirals goalie Igor Bobkov. Henri Ikonen and Mike Angelidis recorded the assists at 3:51 of the first period.
The Admirals came out firing in the second period, testing Vasilevskiy early and often but the netminder stood tall. On the other end of the ice, Syracuse was able to jump on a Steve MacIntyre penalty. Jonathan Marchessault slipped a puck past Bobkov through a heavy screen making the score 2-0 Syracuse with 6:51 gone in the middle frame.
The Admirals made up for it moments later as Louis Leblanc fed a beautiful pass at the top of the crease to Nic Kerdiles, who tapped the puck into the net to cut the Syracuse lead to 2-1. The goal came at the 15:18 mark, yet the Admirals were not finished.
Chris Wagner snapped home his team-leading sixth goal of the season with just 17 seconds remaining in the period. Brandon Yip and Brendan Bell picked up the helpers as Norfolk and Syracuse skated into the third period in the midst of a 2-2 tie.
The stalemate didn't last long as Mike Angelidis gave Syracuse the early 3-2 lead just 1:02 into the third period. Jerome Samson found Angelidis wide open in the slot and the Crunch forward didn't hesitate, putting the puck in the back of the net.
Joseph Cramarossa answered for Norfolk with a blast from the point. He stepped across the Crunch blue line and lined a shot past Vasilevskiy's glove. His second goal of the season at 6:44 of the third period came as the Admirals were shorthanded. Neither team would hit twine for the rest of the period and the two teams would head to overtime.
Cramarossa became a crucial factor yet again in the extra period. He intercepted a pass in the Crunch zone and sent it to Shea Theodore, who rifled home the game-winner for a 4-3 Admirals victory.
Norfolk allowed just one goal on eight Syracuse power plays. The Crunch held the Admirals scoreless on four power play opportunities.
The two teams meet again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. in Syracuse to close the Admirals' brief road trip.
