Game time Friday is 7:05 p.m.
The radio broadcast of the Falcons' season opener will be carried live on KIX 97.9 FM. Marc Shelanski will call the action as he returns for his fifth campaign as the radio voice of the Falcons. The team's second game of the season at Worcester on Saturday evening will not be broadcast on radio. Following a fourth consecutive road game on Friday, Oct. 22 versus the Portland Pirates, the Falcons will host their 2004-05 home opener at the Springfield Civic Center against the Worcester IceCats on Saturday, Oct. 23.
With the Lightning in place as the club's NHL affiliate, the Falcons have seen a complete turnover in their roster from last season. The team heads into the new season with a line-up that includes two former members of the NHL All-Rookie Team in right wing Shane Willis (2000-01) and goaltender Jamie Storr (1997-98 and 1998-99). The roster also includes center Craig Darby, who skated two campaigns for the Montreal Canadiens and ranked tied for eighth in AHL scoring last season (21-48-69). Blue liners Terry Virtue, Worcester's all-time leading scorer, and Darren Rumble, who was named the AHL's Best Defenseman in 1997, are also new members of the Falcons. Former Chicago Blackhawks coach and player Dirk Graham enters his first season behind the Springfield bench.
