Falcons Host Admirals Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Norfolk Admirals meet for the first of four head-to-head matchups this year when they drop the puck at the MassMutual Center on Saturday night. The Falcons and Admirals will play again next Sunday, December 5 at The Nest before the Falcons head to Norfolk on January 28-29 to conclude the season series.

The Falcons head into Saturday's action having defeated the Portland Pirates 4-2 on Friday night in Portland. Mike Blunden's power play goal midway through the third period snapped a 2-2 deadlock and earned the Falcons their 11th win of the season. Maksim Mayorov scored his seventh goal of the year, while Brent Regner tallied his second marker on the campaign giving him two goals and one assist in his last two games. Matt Calvert added the empty netter, while goaltender David LeNeveu stopped 28 of 30 shots for his seventh victory of the year.

Norfolk also was in action last night and they defeated the Adirondack Phantoms by a score of 6-3 in Glens Falls, NY. The Admirals fell behind 2-0 in the game before storming back with four second period goals on their way to their 11th win of the year. Johan Harju had a four-point night recording a hat trick and adding one assist. James Wright, Tim Marks and Alex Berry also scored for Norfolk, while Cedrick Desjardins stopped 25 of 28 shots in earning his seventh win on the campaign.

FALCONS PLAYER NOTES: Rookie Matt Calvert scored his ninth goal of the year last night giving him points in nine of his last 11 games totaling seven goals and four assists in that span. Calvert is currently third in the league in rookie scoring with nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 21 games. He is tied for the Falcons team lead in goals.

Brent Regner scored his first goal of the year and added one assist on Wednesday, November 24 and followed that performance up with his second goal of the year last night earning the game's third star. Regner has been moved up to forward recently playing on a line with Nick Tarnasky and Jay Pandolfo.

Maksim Mayorov scored his seventh goal of the year last night giving him three goals in his last four games. Mayorov has recorded a point in three of his last four games totaling three goals and three assists in that span.

Nick Tarnasky has two goals in his last three games and on Wednesday, November 24, he was the game's second star with one goal and one assist.

NORFOLK TEAM NOTES: Norfolk joins Hamilton and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as the only AHL teams without back-to-back regulation losses all season. Norfolk has won three straight road games and is 8-3-2-0 on the road this season. Norfolk is 8-3-1-0 against the East Division this season - including a 7-1-1-0 record on the road. With his four-point performance (3G, 1A) last night, Johan Harju (12G, 10A, 22PTS) moved past Marc-Antoine Pouliot (4G, 15A, 19PTS) as Norfolk's leading scorer. Harju also is tied for seventh in scoring in the AHL. Harju's 12 goals also lead Norfolk and are tied for third in the AHL. Harju's hat trick last night in Adirondack was just the fifth road hat trick in AHL Admirals history and the first since Brandon Segal scored thrice on April 10, 2009, at Binghamton. Last night, Tim Marks became the first Admiral to score his first professional goal this season. Alex Berry shows six goals and two assists in his Norfolk's last ten games.
