Monarchs Blast Pirates

Manchester, NH - Oscar Moller scored twice to lead the Manchester Monarchs to a 6-1 win over the Portland Pirates in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 5,014 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Corey Elkins, Brayden Schenn, Justin Azevedo and Ray Kaunisto also scored for the Monarchs while Andrei Loktionov collected three assists. The Monarchs improved to 14-7-1-1 with their third straight win.

Nick Crawford scored the lone goal for the Pirates, who dropped their third straight and are now 13-6-1-0 on the season.

The Monarchs got off to a quick start in the game as they grabbed a 1-0 lead 2:36 into the game on a goal by Elkins. Midway through the period Moller made it 2-0 followed by goals three minutes apart by Schenn and Azevedo to make it 4-0 Manchester after one. Crawford got the Pirates on the board in the opening two minutes of the second but Moller answered with his second of the game three minutes later to restore Manchester's four-goal lead as the Monarchs carried a 5-1 lead into the third. Kaunisto completed the scoring with the lone third-period goal.

The Monarchs out shot the Pirates 42-35 in the game as David Leggio took the loss. Leggio started and allowed four goals on 16 shots in the opening period. Jhonas Enroth came on in relief and turned aside 24 of the 26 shots he faced.

The Allied Home Mortgage Three Stars of the game were all from the Monarchs. Moller was the first, Loktionov the second and goaltender Martin Jones (34 saves) the third.

The Pirates complete weekend action tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon when they travel to Providence for a 4:05 p.m. game against the Bruins. The game can be heard live on News Talk 95.5 WLOB and on line at portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 3:45 p.m.

The next Pirates home game takes place Saturday, December 4th when the Norfolk Admirals visit the Civic Center for a Bud Light Hockey Night in Portland in a 7 p.m. start.
