HOUSTON --- Jared Spurgeon scored Houston's lone regulation goal and then bagged the deciding tally in the sixth round of the shootout to lead the Houston Aeros to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Milwaukee Admirals in front of 5,168 fans Saturday night at Toyota Center.

Spurgeon broke a scoreless tie at the 5:12 mark of the third period for his second goal of the season. Casey Wellman, who now has points in three straight since returning from recall to Minnesota, earned an assist along with Brandon Buck to help give the Aeros a 1-0 lead for the 13th time in the last 16 games.

Milwaukee's Aaron Johnson forced overtime with an unassisted tally at 13:15 of the third after Aeros goalie Anton Khudobin stymied the Admirals on their first 24 shots of the game.

Khudobin made a key save on Jonathan Blum in the top of the sixth shootout round with the extra session tied at 1-1, setting the stage for Spurgeon's heroics.

Wellman put the Aeros out to a 1-0 lead in the first round of the shootout with a highlight-reel goal that was initially waved off. Chris Mueller scored in the fourth round for the Admirals.

Houston (11-9-1-2) and Milwaukee (10-6-1-4), each with 25 points, are now tied for third place in the West Division. The Aeros return home for a pair of games against the Rockford Ice Hogs this Thursday (11:05 a.m.) and Friday (7:35 p.m.). Call 713-974-7825 for more ticket information.
