Pirates Sign a Pair

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced today that they have signed forwards Igor Gongalsky and Ethan Cox to try out agreements.

Gongalsky, a 6-foot-1 and 210 pound left winger, comes to the Pirates from Greenville of the ECHL where he has two goals and one assists in seven games this season. The fifth year pro has played 178 games in the ECHL accumulating 44 goals and 63 assists for 107 points to go along with 365 minutes in penalties. The 24 year-old appeared in six AHL games with San Antonio in 2008-09 collecting nine minutes in penalties.

Cox, 5-foot-10 and 175 pound right winger, is in his first pro season with Alaska in the ECHL after playing collegiately at Colgate University. The 23 year-old has two goals and two assists in 16 games with the Aces.

Both players are scheduled to join the Pirates in advance of their game tonight in Manchester against the Monarchs.

The Pirates (13-5-1-0) continue weekend action with road contests tonight (Saturday) in Manchester at 7 p.m. and Sunday in Providence at 4:05 p.m. Both games can be heard live on News Talk 95.5 WLOB and on line at portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.

The next Pirates home game takes place Saturday, December 4th when the Norfolk Admirals visit the Civic Center for a Bud Light Hockey Night in Portland in a 7 p.m. start. State Farm presents the Teddy Bear Toss. Bring a teddy bear to toss on the ice when the Pirates score their first goal. All bears will be donated to local charities in advance of the holiday season.
