
Falcons Comeback Falls Short Versus Admirals

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (33-17-1-4) were defeated by the Norfolk Admirals by the final score of 3-2 Sunday afternoon at the MassMutual Center.
Rickard Rakell's goal at 12:34 of the third period served as the game-winner, breaking a 2-2 tie. For Rakell, the score was his 12th of the season and his team-leading fourth game-winner.
The Falcons scored two unanswered goals to erase an early two-goal deficit. Darryl Boyce found the back of the net at 11:03 of the second period, his 10th goal of the campaign, on a snap shot from the slot. Springfield evened the score at 6:35 of the third period when Sean Collins deflected an Andrew Joudrey wrist shot past Norfolk netminder Brad Thiessen.
The Admirals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period behind goals from Zack Stortini at 3:37 and Chris Wagner at 16:38.
Jeremy Smith made 22 saves on 25 shots in net for the Falcons, falling to 17-11-3 this season. Thiessen stopped 28 of 30 shots to improve to 3-2-2.
Neither team scored on the power play. Springfield went 0-for-2, while Norfolk went 0-for-3.
The Falcons are back in action at the MassMutual Center Saturday, March 1 versus the Providence Bruins. The game, which is set for 7:00 p.m., is Pink in the Rink night presented by Noble Hospital, and the team will wear specialty jerseys.
