
Crunch Defeat Bears 5-2

Washington D.C. - The Syracuse Crunch defeated the Hershey Bears 5-2 in the AHL Showcase tonight at the Verizon Center.
The victory moves the Crunch to 20-23-4-5 on the season and 4-2-0-1 in the season series with the Bears.
Crunch goaltender Cedrick Desjardins stopped 24 of 26 shots faced in victory, while Bears goaltender Philipp Grubauer saved 29 of 34 in defeat. The Crunch were able to convert on one of four power-play opportunities. The penalty kill unit allowed one goal on seven Bears man-advantages.
The Crunch opened scoring when they took a 1-0 lead over the Bears with 37 second remaining in the first period. Richard Panik took a shot from the right side of the crease off a pass from Dana Tyrell. Grubauer made the initial save, but Vlad Namestnikov was able to score on the rebound.
The Bears tied the game with a power-play goal 1:57 into the second. Desjardins stopped a Ryan Stoa shot, but Jeff Taffe was able to control the puck and beat Desjardins on the rebound. Julien Brouillette earned a point with the secondary assist. The Crunch took the lead back at the 6:15 mark when Panik found the back of the net with a shot from the top of the right circle. Tyrell and Namestnikov both picked up their second points of the game on the play. Mike Angelidis redirected a P.C. Labrie feed past Grubauer four minutes later, extending the Crunch's lead to 3-1. Charles Landry was credited with the secondary assist. The Crunch went into the second intermission carrying a 3-2 lead after Nicholas Deschamps scored on a wraparound goal from the right side of the net with 2:30 remaining in the period. David Kolomatis and Casey Wellman each picked up a point with the assists.
The Crunch scored twice in the third period to defeat the Bears 5-2. Tyrell added one when he redirected a cross crease feed from Panik at the 9:01 mark. Jon DiSalvatore increased the Crunch's goal total to five with a power-play goal at the 16:38 mark. DiSalvatore one-timed a pass from Brett Connolly to seal the win over the Bears. The secondary assist gave Panik his fourth point of the game.
Syracuse returns home to face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at the War Memorial Arena.
