Erie SeaWolves News Release
Alex Faedo's nine strikeout performance was not enough to beat the RubberDucks, as Akron (63-43) bested Erie 7-2 in game two of the doubleheader Saturday.
Will Maddox tripled in the bottom of the first to left on Matt Whitehouse, giving Daz Cameron a chance to bring him home on a groundout to third.
Joe Sever's RBI single on Alex Faedo in the third inning plated Andrew Calica to tie it at 1-1.
Akron took the lead on Faedo in the fifth. Joe Sever struck a ball to deep center, allowing Haggerty to score on the sacrifice fly to take the 2-1 lead.
The RubberDucks added on to their lead in the top of the sixth inning on Sandy Baez. Bobby Bradley doubled to lead off the inning, later to be doubled home by Ka'ai Tom.
Akron put up four runs in the top of the 7th on Sandy Baez. Tyler Krieger singled home a run, and then Mark Mathias doubled home a pair. Tom cracked a single on Kurt Spomer only to be gunned down trying to stretch the base hit into a double, but it brought Mathias across to bring the score up to 7-1.
Jake Rogers logged the only multi-hit game for Erie, scoring Isaac Paredes on a double in the seventh. Akron would prevail though, winning the ball game 7-2.
Faedo (1-2) took the loss for Erie despite allowing only two runs on four hits through five innings, striking out a season-high nine batters. Dominic DeMasi (7-2) earned the win for the RubberDucks, throwing the final three innings and allowed only one Erie run in the final frame.
The SeaWolves and RubberDucks will conclude the series at 1:35 PM Sunday at UPMC Park. RHP A.J. Ladwig (2-0, 3.06 ERA) takes the mound against Akron's LHP Sean Brady (0-1, 9.00 ERA).
