Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Bowie Baysox downed the Harrisburg Senators 9-2 Saturday night at FNB Field. Hunter Jones expanded his hitting streak to 10 games in the loss.

The Baysox scored five runs in a nine batter first to open up the ballgame. With a pair of runners on after an error, walk and fielder's choice, Ryan Mountcastle hit an RBI single to score the first run of the frame. Jaycob Brugman and Rylan Bannon followed with back-to-back run-scoring doubles, while an additional run scored on the Brugman double on a throwing error Osvaldo Abreu. The final run of the inning scored on a Martin Cervenka RBI single.

After Ryan McKenna hit a home run to put Bowie ahead 6-2 in the top of the fifth, the Senators got on the board in the bottom of the frame when Osvaldo Abreu and Hunter Jones hit back-to-back home runs. It's the second time this season the Senators have hit back-to-back home runs.

Senators starter Cesar Vargas (0-1) allowed five unearned runs in four innings in his Senators debut. The right-hander retired the final ten batters he faced.

"We didn't make the plays (defensively) and that led to a tough inning for (Vargas). He came back and had a couple good innings of work," Senators manager Matt LeCroy said. "He threw some good curveballs and cutters. He threw some fastballs in that he got some weak contact on. Hopefully we can build on that."

Baysox starter Keegan Akin (10-6) earned the win with six innings of two-run ball.

Bowie tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh on an Aderlin Rodriguez home run to complete their scoring. The final 12 Senators batters were retired as the Baysox won 9-2.

Jones expanded his hitting streak to 10 games after finishing the night 2-for-4, becoming the fourth the Senator this season to have a hitting streak of 10 or more games.

"(Jones has) put together good at-bats, he's got a lot energy. We call him squirrel. I like the way he plays," LeCroy said. "He's been a big spark for us. He's given us some life at the top of the order, hopefully we continue to do well as he makes a difference on our club."

"I thought our at-bats we're good tonight, we just hit some balls right at people. We're in a spot to play for something and I told (the team) today to not let that slip by on us. We have to go out and compete and pull for one another and we'll be okay."

The Senators and Baysox finish the series with a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. Logan Darnell and Jaron Long start for the Senators while Dillon Tate and Dean Kremer start for Bowie. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at FNB Field.
