Charleston RiverDogs News Release
ROME, Ga. -- The Charleston RiverDogs outlasted the Rome Braves 2-1 in a low-scoring, 10-inning affair Wednesday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium. It's the first time this season that Charleston has played extra innings, they were the final team in the South Atlantic League to play bonus baseball.
With the game tied 1-1 in the 10th, Radley Haddad led off with a walk for Charleston (21-18) and Devyn Bolasky's sacrifice bunt moved him to second. Two batters later, Dustin Fowler ripped a hard ground ball that bounced off the first baseman Matt Tellor and rolled into right field to score Bolasky.
The RiverDogs got on the board early on an RBI single by Angel Aguilar in the third inning. Starting pitcher Andre Del Bosque threw four scoreless innings and held Rome (17-21) to just two hits. Rome evened the score on Joseph Daris' two-out RBI single in the seventh.
Rony Bautista (1-0) earned the win by ending Rome's scoring threat in the ninth and getting the first two outs of the 10th. Joe Harvey came in to relieve Bautista after a two-out walk and got his seventh save of the season, despite allowing a runner to reach base on an error by the shortstop Aguilar. Dustin Emmons (0-2) gave up the RiverDogs' run in the top of the 10th and took the loss.
With Wednesday's victory over Rome, Charleston takes their first series on the road since April 20-22 at Augusta. The RiverDogs are 12-5 this season against their three South Atlantic League opponents from Georgia.
