Gnats Win Third Straight Wednesday

Savannah, GA - Starter Brad Wieck and reliever Jimmy Duff combined on a three-hit shutout to blank the Augusta GreenJackets 2-0 at Historic Grayson Stadium Wednesday evening. The Gnats have won three straight games for the second time in 2015.

Wieck struck out eight and allowed three hits in his 6.2 innings to earn his first win of the year. Wreck has fanned 19 batters combined in his last two starts.

The Gnats (16-22) scored their first run in the third inning on a DH Jonathan Johnson sacrifice fly.

In the seventh, with two outs and runners at the corners, Duff relieved Wieck and kept the Gnats in front by striking out 2B Travious Relaford to end the inning.

Savannah added an important insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when SS Luis Guillorme singled home LF Vicente Lupo.

The GreenJackets (17-21) have lost seven straight games.

The Sand Gnats will travel to Rome to take on the Braves tomorrow at 7 PM. The Gnats will send RHP Casey Meisner (2-1, 2.31), while RHP Alec Grosser (2-1, 5.35) will start for Rome. The Sand Gnats will return home on Monday to take on the Asheville Tourist for Kroger Dollar Monday at 7:05 PM.
