
Tourists Trample Intimidators with 13 Early Runs

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (May 20, 2015) - The Asheville Tourists ran away with a 13-2 win over Kannapolis on Wednesday afternoon at McCormick Field. The Intimidators (16-22) were held to just four hits, tying their season low, while being swept for the first time all season.
After scoring a run in the first, Asheville erupted for five runs in the second by stringing together five straight one-out hits, capped by Shane Hoelscher's 3-run home run (1) to put the Tourists up 6-0.
Asheville scored in each of the first five innings, putting up another five-run frame in the fifth off reliever Jacob Morris, highlighted by a Drew Weeks bases-clearing double.
Intimidators starter Thad Lowry (4-2) took the loss, giving up a season-high eight runs on a career-high nine hits including a pair of home runs. He struck out three and walked one. Tourists starting pitcher Zach Jemiola shutout Kannapolis over 6.0 innings, giving up just two hits while striking out three and walking two.
Josh Fuentes, who homered (1) off Lowry in the fourth inning, finished a triple shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with three RBI. Hoelscher and Drew Weeks also drove in three runs for the Tourists.
Kannapolis waited until it was down to its final strike to put runs on the board. Ethan Gross doubled down the right field line to score Ryan Leonards with two outs in the ninth, and Toby Thomas followed with his own two-strike double to left field to bring in Gross.
Asheville completed the three-game sweep of Kannapolis, becoming the first team to sweep the Intimidators since the Tourists took all three games of a series at CMC-NorthEast Stadium last seasonm Aug. 19-21, 2014.
All nine Tourists hitters collected a hit for the second time in three games against Kannapolis.
The Intimidators return to Kannapolis on Thursday to open an 8-games-in-7-days home stand starting with a doubleheader against Hickory at 5:05 p.m. RHP Spencer Adams (0-3, 5.55 ERA) is slated to start the first game, and RHP Yency Almonte (1-2, 5.40 ERA) will toe the rubber in the second game.
