Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - The Sand Gnats waited out a two-hour and thirty-five minute rain delay before scoring four runs in their final two turns at bat to defeat the Augusta GreenJackets 4-0 Tuesday night at Historic Grayson Stadium.

The Gnats (15-22) have now won two straight games while the GreenJackets (17-20) have lost six straight.

The Gnats scored three times in the bottom of the seventh. Third baseman Eudor Garcia began the rally with a double into the right field corner. Garcia was 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI to raise his batting average to .340 since joining the Gnats almost two weeks ago.

Garcia singled home the Gnats' fourth run in the bottom of the eighth.

With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, a fierce, short rain storm halted play for two hours and 35 minutes, which chased both starting pitchers from the game.

The Gnats' bullpen of Paul Paez and Alberto Baldonado combined for five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and a walk while striking out four. Paez earned his first win of 2015 and Baldonado his second save of 2015.

The Sand Gnats and Augusta GreenJackets will conclude their three-game series on Wednesday at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats will send LHP Brad Wieck (0-4, 4.15), while LHP Marc Reyes (2-0, 0.32) will start for Augusta in the Finale. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM and gates will open at 6 PM.
