Express Too Much with Two Outs

Round Rock, Tex. - The Round Rock Express scored eight times with two outs and scored a 9-2 victory in their home finale over the Oklahoma City RedHawks before 9,362 at Dell Diamond.

Even with the loss, the RedHawks (78-58) took three of five games in the series and split the season series with the Express (71-65). They will remain at least six games in front of Albuquerque for first place heading into Monday's home game against Nashville.

The Express got on the board early in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, a wild pitch by Jake Buchanan allowed Jim Adduci to race home from third base and put Round rock in front, 1-0.

One night after the RedHawks registered five straight two-out hits in an inning, the Express just about did the same in the bottom of the fourth. Brendan Harris, Eli Whiteside, and Adduci consecutively hit two-out RBI singles to grow Round Rock's lead to 4-0.

Another wild pitch by Buchanan in the fifth brought home another run, but this time Alex Buchholz scored all the way from second base after catcher Rene Garcia had trouble locating the ball.

Jose Martinez got the RedHawks on the board when he hit a two-run homer to make it 5-2 in the sixth.

However, the Express would answer the bottom of the inning. Adduci homered for the second time in as many games as he sent a two-run opposite field shot to left field, extending the lead to 7-2.

Round Rock added two more in the bottom of the eighth. With a runner at first and none out, Mike Bianucci sent a fly ball to center field. George Springer never saw the ball in the lights as it eventually fell on the warning track, and Bianucci ended up with an RBI double.

Adduci finished the scoring with his fourth hit of the night. Appropriately it was a two-out RBI single to give Round Rock a 9-2 lead.

Oklahoma City had a tough time getting the bats going against rehabbing Texas Rangers pitcher Michael Kirkman. Over six strong innings, Kirkman (2-2) held the RedHawks to two runs and four hits. The lefty walked two and struck out six.

One night after giving up 14 hits, the Round Rock pitching staff combined to hold the RedHawks to just four hits. Oklahoma City had only one runner reach scoring position all night.

For the second straight start, all of the runs Buchanan (5-4) allowed came with two outs. The right-hander gave up season highs with both seven runs and 11 hits. He walked one and struck out four.
