Pair of Former Zephyrs Deal New Orleans a 5-3 Loss in Omaha

PAPILLION, NE - Brett Hayes hammered his sixth home run of the series to lead Omaha to a 5-3 victory on hot Sunday afternoon in front of 5,809 fans at Werner Park.

The former Zephyr catcher Hayes homered twice on Thursday and Friday. The Chasers gave him a day off on Friday. He hit another home run on Saturday night and delivered the decisive home run on Sunday. Hayes played for the Zephyrs in 2009, 10, and 12. The veteran has 17 home runs this season in 75 games but six in his last four.

The Z's took the early lead with a two out RBI single from Kevin Mattison in the third inning to give the Z's a 1-0 lead.

Omaha scored a single run in five consecutive innings off of Zephyr starter Sam Dyson. He worked seven innings allowed five runs on seven hits in the loss.

The game was tied in the sixth inning when Hayes belted the home run. Omaha added a run in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 5-3.

Former Zephyr Brian Sanches started the game and worked six innings allowed three runs on six hits in the win. Sanches filled in for scheduled starter John Lamb. He was a late scratch due to illness. Sanches was a Zephyr in 2009.

Audy Ciriaco belted his first home run as Zephyr in the third inning.

The Z's take the series winning three of five, but fall to 68-68. The Chasers maintain a two game lead on Memphis in the North Division for first place with a 67-69 record.

Game Notes - Of the Zephyrs 135 games, 73 have been decided by two runs or less. The Z's are 39-34 in those contests. The last time the Z's were two games above .500 was April 15th with a record of 6-4.

Coming Up- The Zephyrs will open their final homestand of the season on Monday. The Z's will welcome in Memphis for a four game set. The Zephyrs will start RH Jared Rogers (6-4, 4.88) against RH Scott McGregor (5-9, 5.08) RADIO: WMTI 106.1 FM "The Ticket".
