Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - Mark Saccomanno picked up just the fourth Express triple at The Dell Diamond this season and Chris Burke hammered his first home run at home as Round Rock opened up a four-game set against Memphis with an 8-2 win Friday.

Burke also notched a double and collected three RBI and Barry Wesson shelled out three hits as Round Rock pounded out 13 hits and batted for the cycle as a team.

Right-hander Juan Gutierrez allowed two runs over seven innings, scattering seven hits and four strikeouts in his second win.

After leaving the bases loaded in the first inning, Round Rock jumped out to a three-run lead in the bottom of the second.

Wesson led off with a single against Redbirds starter Randy Keisler, but was out at second on a force play that left Josh Anderson on first. Keisler then hit Gutierrez before Burke lifted his second homer since joining the Express over the left field wall.

Anderson singled, stole second and scored on an Eric Bruntlett single in the fourth inning, erasing a run Memphis put up against Gutierrez in the top of the frame. Mark Saccomanno cranked his first triple of the year to the wall in deep left-centerfield with two down in the fifth inning, later scoring on Wesson's shot up the middle to pad Round Rock's lead at 5-1.

Burke doubled and scored as part of a three-hit, three-run sixth inning for the Express that extended the lead to seven runs before light rains began soaking the field for the second straight night.

Miguel Asencio closed out the final two frames for Round Rock, allowing a hit in the eighth and in the ninth before closing the game out.

The two teams square off for Game 2 of the four-game set Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on 1530 AM or by logging on to www.roundrockexpress.com.
