2007 PCL All-Star Field Staff Announced

May 25, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Albuquerque Isotopes Manager Dean Treanor has been named manager of the Pacific Coast League's All-Star team for the 20th annual Triple-A All-Star Game scheduled for July 11th at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Iowa Cubs Hitting Coach Von Joshua and Las Vegas 51s Pitching Coach Ken Howell will join Treanor in the PCL dugout to lead the squad against the best from the International League in the mid-summer contest. Rounding out the staff is Steve Miller, also of the Albuquerque Isotopes, who will serve as athletic trainer for the team. The announcements were made today by Pacific Coast League President Branch B. Rickey in a press conference held at Isotopes Park.

MANAGER: DEAN TREANOR

Treanor is in his fourth season with the Isotopes and his fifth as a manager in the Florida Marlins organization. During his tenure in the Duke City, he has amassed a record of 246-231 as the Isotopes' skipper, winning at least 70 games in each season at the helm. In his first campaign, he led the Isotopes to a 2003 central division title and a 74-70 record. Treanor's history in the Albuquerque area extends back even further, as he worked in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization as a Pitching Coach with the Albuquerque Dukes in 1999 and 2000.

"It's an honor to be chosen to manage the PCL team in this year's Triple-A All-Star Game," said Treanor. "Given the game will be played at Isotopes Park in front of our fans makes it all the more special and I'm appreciative of the opportunity."

COACH: VON JOSHUA

Hitting Coach Von Joshua is in his second season with the Iowa Cubs and his 24th season as a hitting coach at the professional level. He spent the previous three seasons with Double-A West Tennessee. Prior to joining the Cubs organization, Joshua worked as a hitting coach or instructor in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays organizations. The ten-year major league veteran was a .273 career hitter while playing in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Milwaukee, and San Diego between 1969 and 1980.

COACH: KEN HOWELL

Filling the role of Pitching Coach is former Albuquerque Duke and Los Angeles Dodger Ken Howell, who is currently in his second season with the Las Vegas 51s. Before joining the Las Vegas ball club, he served as Pitching Coach with Single-A Vero Beach from 2003-04 and with the 2005 Southern League Champion Jacksonville Suns. Howell played seven seasons in the big leagues and also spent time as an Albuquerque Duke during his playing career with the Dodgers organization.

TRAINER: STEVE MILLER

2007 marks Steve Miller's third season as a trainer at the Triple-A level and his sixth with the Marlins organization. Before coming to Albuquerque, he served as an athletic trainer with the Single-A Kane County Cougars (2002), the Single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers (2003), and the Double-A Carolina Mudcats (2003). Miller is a graduate of Southern Illinois University and holds a Master's of Science from UNLV.
