Beavers Announce Roster Moves

PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today transferred Portland shortstop Luis Cruz to Class AA San Antonio, transferred left-handed pitcher Frank Brooks to Portland from San Antonio and transferred infielder Ray Chang from Class A Lake Elsinore to Portland.

Cruz, 23, batted .169 with 15 runs scored, 10 doubles, five home runs and 17 RBIs in 44 games with the Beavers.

Brooks, a nine-year professional, was 2-1 with a 2.01 ERA, 26 strikeouts and one save in 17 relief appearances with the Missions. The 28-year-old has played parts of two seasons in the majors with Pittsburgh (2004) and Atlanta (2005), and signed with the Padres as a minor league free agent on Nov. 8, 2006.

In 21 games with the Storm, Chang, 23, was batting .304 with one home run and eight RBIs. Chang made his Triple-A debut with the Beavers in 2006, batting .222 with one home run and two RBIs in 12 games. He signed with the Padres as a non-drafted free agent on July 4, 2005.

The Beavers active roster is now at its 24-man limit.
