Sidewinders Take Series From Portland

Portland, OR - Matt Morgan drove in three runs and Yusmeiro Petit worked five strong innings as the Sidewinders beat the Portland Beavers 7-2 on Thursday night. Tucson won the series three games to one and moved two games over .500 for the first time since they were 2-0 on April 9th.

Casey Daigle, Jailen Peguero and Randy Choate combined for four shutout innings behind Petit to preserve the win. Choate worked the final two innings and faced the minimum six hitters.

Portland took a 2-0 lead on Luis Cruz's two run homer in the bottom of the second but the Beavers would not score again. Petit (4-3) allowed three hits and walked two to earn the victory.

Tucson picked up a run in the top of the third on Jeff Salazar's sixth sacrifice fly of the season and scored three times in the fourth to take the lead. Morgan singled with the bases loaded to drive home a pair and Danny Richar singled home another run for his team leading 29th RBI of the year.

Ryan Ketchner was charged with the loss. Ketchner (0-5) allowed four runs on four hits and walked four in five innings.

The Sidewinders added three runs in the eighth as Brian Barden, Morgan and Chris Carter drove in runs.

The Sidewinders return home tomorrow night to open a four game series with the Tacoma Rainiers at Tucson Electric Park. Right-hander Enrique Gonzalez (2-4, 4.86) starts for Tucson against right-hander Justin Lehr (5-0, 2.44) for Tacoma. First pitch is at 6:30. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:15.
