Eves Leads Clones Over Gwinnett, 3-2

CINCINNATI, OH - David Brownschidle and Jonathan Parker scored their first goals as Gladiators, but it wasn't enough as Gwinnett fell to the Cincinnati Cyclones Monday afternoon at US Bank Arena 3-2. Despite the loss Gwinnett (29-14-7-4) remains atop the Eastern Conference with 69 points.

For the second game in a row the Gladiators fell behind in the opening stanza. Forward Michael Pelech on the power play at 7:47 and Dan Eves at 17:19 gave the Cyclones (24-18-1-7) a two-goal edge heading into the second.

Gwinnett cut into the deficit in the middle frame. Forward David Brownschidle scored his first goal of the season at 10:38 from Paul Flache and Riley Boychuk to get the Gladiators on the board. Brownschidle won an offensive zone draw back to Flache, whose shot from the point deflected in front off Boychuk and back to Brownschidle who beat Cincinnati goaltender Brian Foster on the backhand. Gwinnett trailed 2-1 into the third.

Early in the final period rookie forward and Sabres prospect Jonathan Parker raced down the right wing and fired a shot that squeezed past Foster, and trickled in to even the score at two. Parker's first goal as a Gladiator at 1:47 was unassisted, and Gwinnett erased another first period deficit as they did Saturday in Kalamazoo.

The Cyclones answered however, as Dan Eves buried his second of the night at 7:09 off a rebound chance in front for what would prove to be the game-winner. The Gladiators had several opportunities late in the third with their net empty, but we unable to solve Foster, and Cincinnati held on for a 3-2 win.

Eves finished with two goals, one assist, and several key blocked shots down the stretch for the Cyclones, while Anthony Luciani helped set up all three goals. Foster made 31 saves, while Joe Palmer turned away 28 shots in a losing effort for Gwinnett.

Both teams meet again at US Bank Arena Wednesday at 7:35 p.m.
