Edmonton Recalls Thunder Goaltender Olivier Roy to Oklahoma City

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announced Edmonton has recalled rookie goaltender Olivier Roy (WAH, oh-liv-EE-yay) from the Thunder to the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.

Roy, 20, has appeared in 32 ECHL games this season, ranks sixth in the league with a 2.44 goals against average, third with a .927 save percentage and has compiled a record of 12-15-5. His three shutouts have tied a Thunder regular season record.

The native of Causapscal, Quebec has earned two ECHL Goaltender of the Week awards this season.

Roy was selected in the fifth round (133rd overall) by the Oilers in the 2009 NHL"ˆEntry Draft, was ranked as the second highest North American goaltender by the Central Scouting Bureau before the draft and represented Canada at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships.

He appeared in 200 games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with"ˆCape"ˆBreton and Acadie-Bathurst going 123-57-8 with 14 shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against average and a save percentage of .906. Roy was named to the Canadian Hockey League All-Rookie Team and received the QMJHL Rookie of the Year award in 2007-08.

Roy has three games of AHL experience with the Springfield Falcons, where he was 1-1-0 with a .913 save percentage and 2.57 goals-against-average in 2009-10.

The transaction comes on the same day that Edmonton recalled goaltender Yann Danis from Oklahoma City.
