IN JUST A FEW HOURS...
The Elmira Jackals battle the Reading Royals at the Sovereign Center, with the puck dropping at 1:00 p.m. on Presidents' Day. The Jackals will look to rebound after an 8-1 loss at home on Saturday at the hands of the Trenton Titans, which ended Elmira's week with a 2-2-0-0 record. With a victory today over the Royals, the Jackals would take back first place in the Atlantic Division from the Wheeling Nailers by one point. Reading swept its three games last week, defeating Trenton twice and Wheeling once.
MATINEE KICKS OFF BUSY WEEK
Today's game in Reading commences a five-game week for the Jackals and is the end of a series of four games in five days. Elmira is currently in a stretch of 12 games in 17 days and 13 in 20 to close out the month of February, playing the eighth contest of that stretch today. The meeting is the 11th of 16 between the Jackals and the Royals this season and is the second-to-last one at the Sovereign Center. Elmira has taken six of the first 10 games against Reading in 2011-2012.
SEARCHING FOR SCORING
Since routing Wheeling in Johnstown, Pa., 7-4, on Jan. 21, the Jackals have struggled to put the puck in the net. Elmira has not scored more than three goals in 13-straight contests since that date and is averaging just 2.15 goals/game during this stretch. The Jackals have seen their goals/game average plummet during this run from 3.33 (6th - ECHL) to 3.04 (12th).
