Every Saltdogs Batter Earns at Least One Hit

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Lincoln Saltdogs won a shootout in Sioux City on Thursday, beating the Explorers 14-8 at Lewis and Clark Park. Lincoln improves to 1-2 on the second half of the season.

The two teams each scored eight runs over the first three innings, with Lincoln blowing a big lead after scoring six in the top of the first. Sioux City plated three in the first and three in the second, and both teams tacked on a pair of runs in the third. The Saltdogs finally took the lead for good in the top of the fourth after the loaded the bases with one out, with Brandon Jones hitting a sacrifice fly and Shea McFeely following with a two-run double.

Jones had a huge night for the Saltdogs, going hitting two home runs and a double and totaling five RBI. His three-run homer in the first inning gave Lincoln a 5-0 lead at the time, and his solo shot in the third put the Dogs ahead 7-6. Both home runs bounced off the top of the left-field wall and bounced over. McFeely also had a big evening, homering and driving in four. He followed Jones' third-inning homer with a back-to-back solo shot of his own, and hit his key two-run double one inning later.

The Saltdogs bullpen performed superbly, starting with rookie righty Tim Brown (1-1). The recent grad of Pittsburg State tossed 3.1 scoreless innings to earn his first professional win, allowing four hits and striking out two without allowing a walk. Adam Daniels followed Brown, and kept the Explorers scoreless over the final 2.2 innings. In all, the Lincoln pen tossed six scoreless innings to nail down the victory.

Jones ended the night 3-for-4 with his two homers and five driven in, while McFeely went 4-for-5 with his homer and four RBI. Josh Burrus, Phil Hawke, Pichi Balet and Steve Alexander all had two hits apiece for Lincoln, and Albenis Machado drove in a pair of runs. Every Lincoln batter had at least one hit, and the Dogs totaled 18 hits on the game.

Lincoln heads home to host Sioux Falls on Friday in the first of a three-game series, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05. Righty Jarrett Gardner will make the start for the Saltdogs.
