
Everett Tops Tri-City in Shootout Thriller, 6-5

Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips, led by first star Zack Dailey, defeated the Tri-City Americans in dramatic fashion after a 6-5 shootout win. Dailey ignited with a three point night (2G, 1A), including the game winning goal in a seven round shootout. Tyler Maxwell collected his team leading 24th and 25th goals of the season Saturday night. Shane Harper rounded out the scoring for Everett while Chris Langkow and Kellan Tochkin picked up two assists each. Kent Simpson produced another solid start stopping 29 shots through regulation and overtime and making five of seven saves in the shootout for his 10th win of the year.
Dailey started the scoring for Everett Saturday night collecting his third goal of the season at 1:43 of the first period. Collecting the puck in the slot, Dailey controlled the puck before going to the right of the crease and beating Alexander Pechurskiy glove side for a 1-0 Silvertips lead. Dailey continued his strong play by scoring his second goal of the night at 3:14. Dailey charged hard to the crease to pick up a loose puck in front before beating Pechurskiy five-hole on his backhand. Brooks Macek cut Everett's lead to one after scoring on the power play at 6:30. Kent Simpson stopped several consecutive Tri-City scoring chances before Macek scored his 12th of the year. Brendan Shinnimin tied the game on the power play at 10:22. Originally waved off by the official, the play was put under review and the call was reversed after it was deemed Shinnimin used his stick to put in his 21st goal of the season. Tri-City took its first lead of the game scoring on the man advantage at 16:00. Sergei Drozd scooped up the puck after Simpson stopped Jordan Messier on top of the crease to give the Americans a 3-2 lead. Everett fired back at 19:26 on the power play with Maxwell's 24th of the year. Byron Froese charged the net shooting low and created a rebound for Maxwell who beat Pechurskiy for a 3-3 score after the first period.
Adam Hughesman scored for Tri-City late in the second period at 19:08 on the power play. Johnny Lazo crashed the net to create traffic before Hughesman jumped in to find the puck and the back of the net giving Tri-City a 4-3 lead. Tri-City led in shots 23-19 after 40 minutes of play.
Harper scored his 23rd goal at 2:39 of the third period. Chris Langkow made a great pass from behind the goal line to Harper in the slot before finding the back of the net and tying the game 4-4. Maxwell gave Everett the go ahead goal at 17:25 tipping in a blast from Paul Sohor at the point. Tri-City tied the game just 23 second later after Brett Plouffe scored his fifth of the year crashing the net and beating Simpson. The score was tied 5-5 after regulation sending the game into overtime.
Tri-City and Everett put up three shots each in overtime but couldn't find the back of the net moving the game to a shootout. After a dramatic seven round shootout Dailey won the game with a shot beating Pechurskiy five-hole and a Simpson save on Justin Feser concluded a thrilling 6-5 shootout victory.
This brings the 'Tips record to 20-16-2-1 with 43 points in 39 games played. Everett goes on a four game road trip this week starting tomorrow night in Portland to face the Winterhawks at 5:00 pm. This Tuesday Everett will be in Kamloops to take on the Blazers at 7:05 before heading to Kelowna this Wednesday. Friday brings a 7:35 start against the Seattle Thunderbirds in Kent before heading back home to Comcast Arena next Sunday.
