Portland, OR - Scoring a late third period goal, Byron Froese sealed a 2-1 victory over the Portland Winterhawks Sunday night. Thomas Heemskerk in his first start in 2010 made 32 saves in net for his 11th victory of the season. Clayton Cumiskey started the scoring for Everett collecting his first goal as a 'Tip while Tyler Maxwell, Curtis Kulchar, Chris de la Lande and Scott MacDonald picked up an assist each.
Cumiskey scored his first goal as an Everett Silvertip at 2:01 of the first period. Kulchar sent the puck off the end boards where an odd bounce sent the puck in front of the Portland net for Cumiskey. Cumiskey was left with an open net to give Everett a 1-0 lead. Portland led in shots 12-7 after 20 minutes of play.
Brad Ross tied the game at 12:56 of the second period for his 22nd goal of the year. Everett led the second period in shots 15-11.
After a tightly contested game, Froese scored the game winning goal at 18:44 of the third period. Controlling a rebound from a de la Lande shot, Froese found the back of the net for his 11th goal of the season sealing a 2-1 victory.
