
Blades Get Past Americans 6-4

Led by Gaelan Patterson's three goals and one assist, the Saskatoon Blades moved into first overall in the WHL with a 6-4 victory over the Tri-City Americans on Sunday night.
Aside from Patterson's (Saskatoon, SK) three goals, the Blades also received markers from Travis Toomey (Leduc, AB), Derek Hulak (Saskatoon, SK), and Jeremy Boyer (Saskatoon, SK). With the win, the Blades now have five straight wins, including four to open the team's six-game road trip.
Saskatoon - 1st - Patterson (Hulak, Wintoneak) 0:48 The Blades opened the scoring for the fourth straight game on the road trip as Patterson took a centering pass from Walker Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB) and connected on his 12th of the year.
Tri-City - 1st - Kruise Reddick (Tyler Schmidt, Brooks Macek) 3:19 The Americans evened the score in short order as Schmidt put a cross-ice feed on the stick of Reddick, who converted on his 11th of the season.
Saskatoon - 1st - Patterson (Hulak, Stefan Elliott) 8:18 pp The Blades went back out in front midway through the opening frame. Patterson was left to walk unabated out from the corner and knife home his second of the night and 13th on the campaign.
Tri-City - 1st - Reddick (Adam Hughesman, Brennan Shinnimin) 17:51 pp Reddick tied the game up 2-2 on a power play marker before the first period was done with his second of the night and 12th of the year.
Saskatoon - 2nd - Toomey (Boyer, Darian Dziurzynski) 9:22 Toomey made it 3-2 midway through the second period after breaking in on a 2-on-1, electing to shoot, and beating goaltender Drew Owsley with a wrist shot on the blocker side.
Saskatoon - 2nd - Hulak (Patterson, Wintoneak) 15:56 pp The Blades went up 4-2 on the Americans before the second period was out on the man advantage with his 18th of the year.
Saskatoon - 3rd - Patterson (Stanford) 2:47 sh Patterson completed the hat trick early in the third period with a low shot that beat goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy stick side. For Patterson, the hat trick was done in fine fashion with one even strength goal, one power play goal, and one shorthanded goal.
Tri-City - 3rd - Johnny Lazo (Shinnimin, Hughesman) 8:01 pp Lazo made it 5-3 with his 24th of the season that leads the Americans this year.
Tri-City - 3rd - Schmidt (Shinnimin, Reddick) 18:53 pp The Americans made it interesting with just over a minute remaining in regulation as Schmidt's shot from the point hit a body in front and went in for the defenseman's 4th on the campaign.
Saskatoon - 3rd - Boyer 19:52 en Boyer closed out the scoring with 8 seconds left as his shot at empty net slid across the line for his 8th of the year.
Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) turned aside 20 of 24 shots in the Blades' net to earn the victory between the pipes. Drew Owsley got the start for the Americans in goal and stopped 11 shots in nearly two periods of work. Alexander Pechurskiy came on in relief and turned aside 9 of 10 shots sent his way.
Final score Saskatoon Blades 6, Tri-City Americans 4.
With the win, the Blades improve to 28-7-1-3 for 60 points on the season and are first overall in the Western Hockey League. The Americans, meanwhile, fall to 29-10-0-1 for 59 points and remain in first in the U.S. Division.
