
Everett Scores Shootout Victory Over Kamloops, 4-3

Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips fought hard in route to a 4-3 shootout win against the Kamloops Blazers Wednesday night at Comcast Arena. First star of the night Tyler Maxwell added two goals to his team leading total bringing the forward to 14 on the year. Daniel Iwanski put away a shorthanded tally in the second period, bringing his total to four this season. Byron Froese collected two assists on the night.
Kamloops goaltender Jon Groenheyde came up huge in the opening half of the first period shutting down three Silvertips power plays including a huge save backdoor on Tyler Maxwell during an Everett 5 on 3 man advantage. Thomas Heemskerk looked sharp as well stopping C.J. Stretch on a break from the right circle midway through the first. The Blazers scored the night's first goal at 13:44. Mark Hall scored his first of the season after receiving a cross slot pass from Jake Trask on a 2 on 1 rush to give Kamloops the 1-0 lead. Everett fought back to tie up the score at 17:08. Maxwell scored his team leading 13th goal of the season collecting a rebound after a scrum in front to make the score 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.
Kamloops regained the lead at 5:57 when Jimmy Bubnick tallied his seventh of the year on the power play. Bubnick was left open in the slot where he found the back of the net on a hard wrist shot, blocker side for the 2-1 Blazer lead. Daniel Iwanski put home his fourth of the year after intercepting a center ice Kamloops pass to go on the breakaway beating Groenheyde with the backhand deke shorthanded at 7:33. Everett led in shots after two period of play 26-16.
Bubnick collected his second goal of the night at 2:21 to give Kamloops a 3-2 lead. After a tie up at the right Everett zone faceoff dot, Bubnick found the puck amongst a scrum and fired a hard wrist shot past Heemskerk blocker side. Everett answered yet again on the special teams with Maxwell's second goal of the night. Maxwell collected a rebound on top of the left side of the crease going top shelf on his backhand at 6:40 tying the game 3-3. The score was tied at the end of regulation sending the game in overtime.
This brings the 'Tips record to 13-6-1-0 with 27 points in 20 games played. Everett heads out for a two game road trip this weekend starting at Tri-City this Friday night for a 7:05 start, then down to Kent Saturday night to take on the Seattle Thunderbirds at 7:05.
The Silvertips continue the 2009-2010 season at Comcast Arena on Wednesday, November 25th against the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05.
